Our Mission

The essential role and fundamental importance of an adequate, secure supply of energy to our nation's economy and culture cannot be understated.

Pennsylvania-produced natural gas serves as an important energy source to meet the growing demand for commercial and industrial process fuel, for residential energy needs, and for electricity generation. The state's crude oil producers and refiners also play a vital role in the economic base of many rural Western Pennsylvania communities.

As the cleanest fossil fuel, natural gas will be a key component in the mix of energy supplies that support our nation's carbon-constrained energy future. Since renewable energy will be unable to meet most energy needs for decades, natural gas is an essential bridge to a renewable energy era. Natural gas will also be an important fuel source after our nation builds an electricity infrastructure that relies heavily on renewable power sources because of the inherently intermittent nature of wind and solar energy. Natural gas will provide critical power to satisfy continuous electric demand when the wind is not blowing or the sun is not shining.

POGAM is dedicated to promoting a strong and healthy natural gas and crude oil industry in the state to help meet the needs of energy consumers in Pennsylvania and the Northeast. We strongly support state energy policies and programs that:

  • enhance access to and the use of Pennsylvania's indigenous natural gas and crude oil supplies;
  • promote infrastructure investments and projects that connect Pennsylvania's gas supplies to markets throughout the state and the Northeastern US; and
  • focus government research and development spending on new technologies to improve the search for, development and production of Pennsylvania's natural gas and crude oil reserves.

Our Purpose

POGAM serves as an informed voice and strong advocate for the exploration and production segment of the oil and gas industry. It represents and promotes its membership's views before the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the Executive Branch of state government and state regulatory agencies. POGAM also develops and produces information services, education and training programs and social events and participates in research and development activities for the benefit of its members.
